Womenomics: Beneficiaries to Determinants

Womenomics as per my definition is a necessity for women that want to power through in their professional sphere, and be able to live stress free with their family. Centuries ago Indian women were equal to men, as our philosophy says there is no gender of the soul. In today’s so-called post-colonized, industrialist, modern era women are expected to don a masculine persona to succeed in the corporate jungle. Yet every woman stands at a crossroad making the difficult decision of choosing between her rising career with long working hours, or her family. Talented working mothers should be absorbed into the market by allowing her to work from home; this is a benefit of technology that every industrialist must adopt which will benefit the entire working world.

The percentage of women in top and middle managerial and administrative titles is plummeting, owing to the lack of work-life balance. Organizations should work to understand the need of a mother to be able to balance all spheres of her life, and provide adequate facilities to enable a woman to be able to work efficiently. This shouldn’t be seen as a method to uplift women or to retain diversity in the office, but for the retention of qualified and valuable assets to a company. I don’t believe that women are less capable than men at taking risks, or less prone to confronting difficulties.

Women work on a 24/7 clock, where the work never ends. Men can come home and be nonchalant, but we have to continue with our work from a biological and a socio-cultural standpoint. Today it is acceptable for women to be more career-oriented but before it wasn’t. Another difference is that when it comes to employment the retention rate under the umbrella of a woman’s administrative service is much higher as compared to a males rule.

From my experience, it is not necessary to dawn the mask of a masculine role at work. The excellent ability to empathize and multitask, predominantly found in women, have emerged from male-female stereotypes, these characteristics are a positive force towards creating a work environment that is more conducive and successful.

With more women making leaps in the field of education, it is time for the nation to realize the pool of potential untapped, and make efforts to absorb talented women in various fields. The percentage of female graduates has risen by 116%, and post-graduates by 151%. The increase in percentage of male graduates was only 65%. Women enrolment in medical colleges is by far more than men, and this is a growing trend, yet there are fewer practicing female doctors due to the difficulty in balancing work and home responsibilities. Gender disparity in education is finally coming to a close, yet in the work-force more effort is needed.

Women have come very far in their path towards success, but my question today is why do we need to compare ourselves with men? In Indian philosophy, women are considered superior. Then what are we trying to achieve?

I see a very bright future for women, but somewhere they can’t forget their role as a mother, of rearing the young and taking care of the old. That’s the role a woman can execute well because they are better at it. Even if we try to forget, our mind will be with an ailing child or elderly at home.
